Marble is a type of rock primarily composed of calcium carbonate, which gives it its distinctive white colour. Renowned for its sheen, marble has been highly valued as a premium building material since ancient Greek times.

The word "marble" actually derives from the Greek word "màrmaron," meaning shining stone. The material is extracted from quarries in blocks and then processed using a variety of techniques aimed at selecting the different blocks for their final use.

White marble, in fact, finds application in various industries, such as being used as a component in dyes and paints, toothpaste, and plastics. It is also used in paper production to give it a white color, alongside kaolin.
